How did you get into developing apps?

Nicolas Sorel:

Well, I was very impatient to code on Android for many months (Since a Googler show me his Android). But in France the Android has only been sold for 1 or 2 weeks. So Last month I decided to order one on Internet. And since this time, my colleague (Emmanuel) and I received our Androids G1 we put our hands in the Android SDK and didn’t stop to “play” with it. We are Android junkies !

What was your inspiration for developing this app?

Nicolas Sorel:

I’m the Webmaster of a well know developer’s web site in France called . And 2 top most things I use for my job are Google Analytics and Google Adsense like many webmasters worldwide… I didn’t find applications for either so I decided to build them myself with my colleague. We made DroidSense first because we made Adsense Freewares for Desktop (CSV AdStats and Madsense) and it was very easy for us to adapt our runtimes to build DroidSense. When we published DroidSense in the Market we started to develop DroidAnalytics. We used  Google Analytics API and Google Chart API.
99% Google API and 1% of my brain/fingers :-)

How long did it take to develop the app?

Nicolas Sorel:

It was not so long. Less than a week for each of them. We’d never developed on Java before those last 3 weeks. We come from a “.NET world” especially “Visual Basic world”. I have developed on VB/VB.NET/ASP/ASP.NET since more than 10 years. So those applications helped us to understand the “philosophy” of the Android SDK and Java. If I had to develop them today from scratch, maybe 2 days should be enough.
The longest development we made was for DroidDiams (a big week). It’s a small game. We made it because the wife of my colleague and my wife love this kind of game… (My wife bought and HTC Magic specially for our game because I was boring and she steals my G1 to play every evening.) I’m not kidding.

Are there any hidden features to the app?

Nicolas Sorel:

No, but I update often DroidAnalytics with new features. When I find time to add news features, I build them and I send the update in the Market.

Do you have any future plans for this app?

Nicolas Sorel:

Yes, I’ll add new “tops” (Like top of page views), pie charts and others features.

Do you plan to develop any new apps? If so when can we expect to see them in the Market?

Nicolas Sorel:

We have a lot of work to finish before developing new applications for the Android but we plan to build new applications asap. We have a lot of ideas but not enough time. We’ll launch a new version of soon. After this, I plan to be 100% on Android coding for a long time.

Btw, 2 days ago we launched a web browsable Android Market in French we plan to make an English version soon. We did it because we have T-Mobile G1 and in the Market we can only see US English comments/ratings, so if we have feedbacks in the comments for others languages (for example in French), it’s impossible to see them and no where in the developer interface of the market Google offers us the possibility to see the feedbacks for our own applications. When a developer cannot find a needed feature, he builds it, and that’s my leitmotiv.
