What was your inspiration for developing this app?
KeyesLabs:
The inspiration for Screebl was my wife, plain and simple. We were both in the car and I was driving while she was trying to use my phone to check Facebook, look at some pictures in my album, and so on. The screen kept blanking while she was doing this, and it drove both of us nuts. It was a long trip, and I had lots of time to think about the problem. Fortunately for my marriage, the two of us hatched the idea behind Screebl.

What’s your personal favorite Android App that you did not develop?
KeyesLabs:
I love apps that augment common every-day activities. People are experimenting a lot with these ideas and we’re still in the early stages of this class of applications, but there are a few standouts. ShopSavvy (and other similar apps), Shazzam, and Layar are cool. My favorite so far, however, is Google Sky Map. My kids and I love this app. I’m always draining my battery looking for Saturn or Orion’s Belt.

Can we expect any updates to your app in the near future?
KeyesLabs:
Absolutely! Screebl is being used on dozens of different devices, carriers, Android OS versions, and many different countries. Screebl has had over 60k downloads, and currently has about 30k active users on any given day. Consequently, I have lots of reports of minor behavioral differences on different platform combinations, and I’m working through those and releasing updates every couple of weeks. We do a major release about once every quarter, generally, and I plan on rolling out our next big feature set in early summer. Look for some major detection improvements and simplifications, other integrations besides Locale, and a few other juicy features as well.

Do you have any new apps that will be on the Android Market soon that we should look out for?
KeyesLabs:
There may be some other minor utility apps focused on specific hardware defects in some of the major Android models. Believe it or not, I hear about these kinds of things all of the time, as many people try Screebl for use cases that are close but not exactly aligned with my app.
Beyond that, KeyesLabs is working on some very exciting new software that will live in the “Sports” category on the Android Market. This is by far the biggest venture that we’ve taken on, and we fully expect to shake up the sports world in much the same way that fantasy sports did 15 years ago. We plan to start offering betas in the next six months.

Do you have any future development plans for Android Tablets?
KeyesLabs:
As a matter of fact, yes. We see tablets as being the bridge between mobile, Internet, and TV. Our current development efforts focused on the sports domain include tablets.
