Android App Review Source:

How did you get into developing apps?

Koku:

I was really interested in mobile development because of the endless possibilities available to developers. You have multiple sensors not available on desktop computers which allows to create new kind of applications with new type of interaction. You are only limited by your imagination.
So when I bought my first Android device, I have started to think of software which I could used for myself, but I could also share with the Android community.
I was already developing Java application for my company so It was easy for me to begin developing application for the Android system.

What was your inspiration for developing this app?

Koku:

Before using Android, I had a HTC mobile with a stylus and handwriting recognition. So writing text message was really fast and easy. My Android phone was my first mobile with a virtual keyboard. So I found that it was really difficult to write with this kind of keyboard, because of the small size of the keys and symbols which were not easily accessible. So I had decided to make my own keyboard which the main objective will be to reduce typing errors and to be able to easily switch between classic letters and symbols. After that I have decided to add a toolbar like the one you can found on any word processing software in order to give the user the possibility to make cut/copy/paste operations faster than with standard keyboard.

How long did it take to develop the app?

Koku:

I have started developing this application during summer 2009, so I have been working on this project since 6 months. But I was not a 100% percent on it because I have been developing other projects at the same time.

Android App Review Source:

Are there any hidden features to the app?

Koku:

Not for now (but it could be fun :-) ) .

Android App Review Source:

Do you have any future plans for this app?

Koku:

I am planning to release a paid version of this apps with more features, like the possibility to entirely customize the skin of the keyboard (apprearance, position of letters, sounds, …). The goal is to give to each user the possibility to create his own keyboard by using a desktop application which will generate the skin. So even without any programming knowledge you should be able to create your own keyboard.

Android App Review Source:

Do you plan to develop any new apps? If so when can we expect to see them in the Market?

Koku:

The first application I have developed on Android is GWakeUp which is an alarm manager. The application is quite basi, that’s why with the experience I have acquired by developing Slide Keyboard, I am planning to release a complete new version of GWakeUp with a new interface and new functionalities.
I am also developing an Android version of the african strategy game Awale, there is already a demo version on the market, but I didn’t have the time to finish this project because I was busy developing for Slide Keyboard. So I plan to release a full version of this game, with a lot more functionalities available on the demo version.
Of course I will continue to maintain the free version and add new features on it.
