How did you get into developing apps?

AppManiax:

Over the years it has been becoming increasingly clear to me that the future of the Internet is Mobile coupled with Software-as-a-Service. Having spent years building Internet-based service-oriented technologies, I was ready to bring that to Mobiles. Late in 2008, with the advent of iPhone App Store, Google Android Market and BlackBerry App World, I decided that the time was right to quit the day job and jump in to mobile application development.

What was your inspiration for developing this app?

AppManiax:

VoxNotes is like SMS for Voice. I constantly felt the need to be able to send someone a quick voice message without having to hear their phone ringing, waiting for them to pick up, and so on. Just wanted the ability to quickly say-and-forget my message like “Hey, I’m running a little late” or “Honey, can you pick up some milk on the way back”, without the hassle of voice mail and all that. So I thought I’ll build an “app for that”.

How long did it take to develop the app?

AppManiax:

The initial version on Android took 2 months to build. On iPhone, it took about the same. Since then, we’ve spent several more months adding more and more features.

Are there any hidden features to the app?

AppManiax:

Well yes actually. You can use the app not only to send voice messages but also contacts! And you can even attach a voice note to a contact, like say “This is the guy I met last spring in Cancun”. You can also send a contact with its attached voice note to someone else. There are also hidden ways to upload logs, turn on debugging, etc that come in handy in providing support to customers.

Do you have any future plans for this app?

AppManiax:

Yes lots of plans. Most immediately, we are working on the ability to not just exchange voice notes between iPhones and Android phones, but also include the whole business community by supporting BlackBerry’s. Also, in parallel, we are working on adding the ability to send messages to any phone in the world. We think that will put the app in a whole new world of possibilities.

Do you plan to develop any new apps? If so when can we expect to see them in the Market?

AppManiax:

Yes, well we already have about half a dozen apps under the name AppManiax on Android Market. We expect to add another app called AppMania within 4 weeks, that will allow fast access to apps on your phone and connect app users together in a community.
