How did you get into developing apps?
Beth Mezias:
I worked on Java Enterprise Applications for many years. This experience led me to Android Development when I found myself out of work with the economic downturn.

What was your inspiration for developing this app?
Beth Mezias:
The Android Developer Challenge inspired me to write Alarmoid! There were a few other inspirations…
1. The G1 battery would not fully charge in airplane mode.
2. I had a text message wake me at 6am.
3. I forgot to turn my phone on after leaving a movie and missed some calls.
4. Another, similar application I found when considering writing Alarmoid required too much setup and did not have all the features I wanted.
I was inspired to write the Flipper coin tossing app by my interest in Sports and games. Although I may not have a coin, I always have my phone. It was an application to learn the Android API and get my feet wet.

How long did it take to develop the app?
Beth Mezias:
I spent long hours writing Alarmoid from May through August to have a production ready app on August 31st.
After about 4 weeks of work on Flipper I got the nerve up to join the Android Dev program and post my application on the Market. There was randomizer showing text coin flipping and no other animated coin flip at that time.

Are there any hidden features to the app?
Beth Mezias:
It’s easy to miss the home screen widget and the sound on wakeup features of Alarmoid. Flipper has an Easter egg coded into a particular coin selection.

Do you have any future plans for this app?
Beth Mezias:
Yes, there are a few other notification features that I want to introduce in Alarmoid as well as the ability to “silence” LED and vibration notifications. In Flipper I may introduce a Gallery on the main screen to select the coin rather than switch screens to a new activity when the user wants to select a coin.

Do you plan to develop any new apps? If so when can we expect to see them in the Market?
Beth Mezias:
Yes, but I cannot say what they are or when they might become available… If you don’t mind me being vague, the goal is to continue to learn the SDK and to connect the mobile device to the cloud.
