How did you get into developing apps?
André Rabold:
I have programmed since I was 14 years old. After my studies in computer science several years ago I’ve started to work at a large software company over here in Germany. So I’m an out-and-out developer Last year I had a look at Microsoft’s XNA technology for developing Xbox 360 games just as a hobby. But once Android SDK showed up and the hype started I had to put my hands on it and try it out… And so here I am!

What was your inspiration for developing Puzzle Blox?
André Rabold:
At the beginning I just started to play around with the Lunar Lander sample. I wanted to do a small game just as a learning exercise. As I loved to play Tetris on my old Nintendo Gameboy it was obvious that the first game would feature small colorful bricks falling down the screen. That time I didn’t even know how the game should work in the end. The concept developed over time after many experiments and prototypes. My wife had to test over and over again until the final game play was finished.

How long did it take to develop the app?
André Rabold:
The first prototype was ready after a few weekends of work back in February already. But it was quite boring, bugged and really slow… As Puzzle Blox is a pure hobby project I can work on it only during the weekends which delayed the final version again and again until early June 2009. This was the day of public release which got overwhelming reviews also on your site, androidappreviewsource.com. Being one of the top 5 finalists of the Android Network Awards 2009 in the category “Best Puzzle Game” was also a big motivation boost

Are there any hidden features to the app?
André Rabold:
They wouldn’t be hidden anymore if I would talk about them here, would they?

Do you have any future plans for this app?
André Rabold:
I did a major update of Puzzle Blox on October 31st. It features two new play modes, new levels and an exclusive Halloween theme with graphics designed by a professional artist. There’s also a new free version in the market right now called Puzzle Blox Arcade! which features the brand new unlimited Arcade play mode. I didn’t want this version to be a trial or a lite version anymore but to be a full standalone game you like to play over and over again. I really put a lot of efforts into this new update and hope you all like it But don’t think that this is it. For Christmas I’m planning another little goody.

Do you plan to develop any new apps? If so when can we expect to see them in the Market?
André Rabold:
I’m still working on WiFi Buddy, a small network scanning tool for discovering Wi-Fi access points. There’s already a version in the Market right now but the new release will be rewritten from scratch. Besides a simple and easy to use scanning interface it will feature a Google Maps integration showing known (and unknown) Wi-Fi hotspots close to you, connect to them, test for Internet connectivity and a lot of other helpful stuff.
