How did you get into developing apps?
Lim Thye Chean:
I have been developing applications since the Apple II days. I simply love programming! I get into Android development out of curiosity, and ended up liking it because of its Java API. I like it better than Java ME.

What was your inspiration for developing this app?
Lim Thye Chean:
This game is initially developed on an Apple IIGS computer as a demo and also as a teaching tool for my son Ding Wen and other kids. The demo is initially developed on Pascal with source code publicly available.

When my son started to write Invader War for iPhone, I decided to do a demo in Android to “compete” with him. But then I received a lot of feedbacks and when I slowly added in suggestions, it becomes the game as it is.

How long did it take to develop the app?
Lim Thye Chean:
From demo to what it is now, it is about half a year. It is initially a demo, and by version 2 it ended up to be a space arcade game with power up. By version 3 I added 2 boss levels.

Are there any hidden features to the app?
Lim Thye Chean:
No.

Do you have any future plans for this app?
Lim Thye Chean:
I do plan to work on version 4 of the game with multiple levels, story line, more alien battle formations and power ups! However, I am currently stopping development right now since Google has yet to allow Singapore developers to sell applications. Since this can only be a free game I am forced to work on alternative platforms for now until Google realized that there are a lot of developers out there especially in Asia, and we cannot do free applications forever.

Do you plan to develop any new apps? If so when can we expect to see them in the Market?
Lim Thye Chean:
Yes, I do plan to work on another game once Google allowed paid app development for Singapore developers.
