About WorldTour:
WorldTour periodically sets your home wallpaper to a live view of the beautiful Eiffel Tower, Paris and other locations from all around the world! The image is fetched every 30 min. from a live webcam so you’ll always enjoy the current view of the selected location.

How did you get into developing apps?
BoD:
I am a software engineer with about 9 years of experience with Java, mostly doing server-side / web development. When I heard about a smartphone OS with a Java oriented SDK, plus that it was backed by Google, I knew something important was happening. I bought the ADP1 as soon as I had a chance, and started with a small project (a calculator for restaurant bills) to learn the SDK.

What was your inspiration for developing this app?
BoD:
I live in Paris and I’ve always liked the Eiffel Tower. A few years ago, I stumbled upon a live webcam of the Tower, and I kept it open on my computer’s secondary screen, so I could have a look at all times. That’s how I came with the idea to have this webcam as the home wallpaper for the phone… Then I added other webcams to the app

How long did it take to develop the app?
BoD:
The app is somewhat simple and basic. The core of the app didn’t take too long, probably about a week (at night after work, and on the weekend). But fixing bugs, adding small improvements and features, took longer. Also surfing the web to find cool webcams to add to the list can be time consuming !

Are there any hidden features to the app?
BoD:
I think a lot of people never have the idea to press the “menu” button to see more options ! Also there is a feature that is somewhat undocumented: you can long press on an item in the list to exclude it. So when the app is in ‘random mode’, this cam won’t be picked!

Do you have any future plans for this app?
BoD:
I have a long to do list I hope I’ll be able to find time to work on it. One feature that I’d like to implement soon is a way to “share” a wallpaper by sending it by email. Also I’m always trying to add more cams to the list.

Do you plan to develop any new apps? If so when can we expect to see them in the Market?
BoD:
Yes, I already have an idea for my next app. Finding time to code is another story!
