Android App Review Source:

How did you get into developing apps?

Coding Caveman:

This was the first app I developed. I recently got my first Android phone (HTC Magic) and was very impressed by what it could do. I wanted to play around with the Android SDK to see what it was capable of.

What was your inspiration for developing this app?

Coding Caveman:

My wife and I went to a John Williams concert (one of the great classical guitarists of our time). It was the next morning in the shower, while I was getting ready for work, that the idea finally came to me – a virtual guitar app is ideally suited for touch screen phones! I was very exited and started coding that same evening.

How long did it take to develop the app?

Coding Caveman:

About 2-3 months hard work in the evenings and on weekends. I have a full time day job and had to do this in my spare time. I haven’t programmed in Java before, but the Android SDK and development tools made this a great platform to develop for, so it didn’t turn out to be much of a problem. It was in July that I read about the Android Developer Challenge, and decided that I wanted to try and make the deadline and enter the competition. That was a good thing though – if I didn’t have that deadline looming, I might never have passed from dabbler to developer :)

Are there any hidden features to the app?

Coding Caveman:

At the moment, no. With the limited time that I had before the entry deadline, I had to decide which features to keep and which to drop. There certainly wasn’t time to spend on features that wouldn’t be exposed. But that doesn’t preclude Easter eggs being added to future updates :)

Android App Review Source:

Do you have any future plans for this app?

Coding Caveman:

Yes, I have much more ideas for things that I would like to add to the app, as well as for user requested features. The Market version of the app already has many more features than the ADC 2 version, and will continue to receive updates in the coming months.

Android App Review Source:

Do you plan to develop any new apps If so when can we expect to see them in the Market?

Coding Caveman:

I do. I enjoy developing for Android. But at the moment, I want to concentrate on improving Solo and adding features that didn’t make it in time for the competition. I wan’t to make Solo as good as I can before moving on.

I just purchased Solo from Google’s Market for my HTC Hero. I am not a computer expert so I would like to know if there is any user documentation I could download to maximize Solo’s capabilities. I tried the Help on the app but need more.

Thanks and I like the app.
